About our Art Camp Program
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s Summer Art Camp program is a popular high-quality arts and culture experience for children and youth. Camp participants develop visual literacy and critical thinking skills as they explore art history, engage with Indigenous and contemporary Canadian art in the gallery spaces, and learn about diverse art making practices. While discovering new artistic techniques participants have fun learning hands-on skills, and build their creativity and problem-solving ability.

Water Works (5-7 years)
Go with the flow in a world of aquatic imagination as we explore the wonders of water through art. From ripples on the surface to vibrant underwater scenes, each day brings new opportunities for discovery and expression through drawing, sculpting, and painting.

Making Waves (8-12 years)
Take a deep dive into water themed art that makes waves. Inspired by art history and contemporary practices students will explore the depths of their creativity while learning drawing, sculpting, and painting techniques.

Celebrate all kinds of heroes with art. Unleash creative powers on colourful costume design, dynamic action poses, and hero-themed art. Level up your drawing, painting, and printmaking skills.

Discover a world of bravery through creating dynamic portraits with drawing, painting, and printmaking. Participants will channel their imagination and learn new skills as they create art that celebrates strength, resilience, and the power of heroism.

Embark on a creative journey through the world of clay. From hand building functional pottery to crafting intricate clay creatures, participants will unleash their imagination under the expert guidance of our instructors.

Explore the versatility of water colour, acrylic, and oil paint on canvas, wood, and paper. Set up your easel outdoors, sketch in the gallery, and unleash imagination while learning all about the medium of paint.

Discover a week of imaginative art-making as we explore fantastic art through the ages. Paint vibrant scenes of the forest, create magical places, and build mythical creatures.

Join us for an enchanting week of art as we paint mystical landscapes, create fantastical realms, and bring mythical creatures to life inspired by art history. Get ready for some off-screen fun inspired by videogames. Celebrate beloved characters while challenging yourself to design your own. Turn your pixel art creation into a mosaic.

From pixel to paper, go off-screen and learn art and design through an exploration of the digital world. Learn about artists inspired by games, and games inspired by artists. Apply design and drawing skills to your own characters and turn your pixel art creation into a mosaic.

Comic Craze (8-12 years)
Draw from the dynamic world of comics to develop your skills and explore a variety of comic styles. From superheroes to manga, participants will learn drawing techniques to bring their characters to life on the page.

Soar to new heights of creativity. Inspired by the grace and agility of circus performers, participants will engage in a variety of artistic activities. From dynamic paintings capturing aerial feats to sketching acrobatic figures and more. Participants will explore the thrilling world of the circus through their artwork.
