Zumba Toning Join our high energy class that will get your heart rate up and boost your cardiovascular endurance. There will be a mix of low intensity and high intensity moves for an interval–style, calorie burning workout. The addition of small weights provides added calorie burning, strength training and extra emphasis on toning and keeping your muscles engaged longer. Share Smith-Baxter 55+ Centre – Gymnasium (class open to all ages) Saturdays 10:30am – 11:30am Saturday June 1st – Saturday June 29th
Hatha Yoga This gentle paced class will aim to develop strength, flexibility and the connection between body, mind and breath. It will focus on proper alignment in each posture and will be suitable to all fitness and skill levels. Come give it a try! Tracey Berry West Arthur Community Centre (Main Hall) 1914 Arthur St. W. Fitness Punch Card

The Fitness Punch Card offers maximum flexibility and is perfect for those who need to accommodate a busy schedule. Your Fitness Punch Card is good for a one year period from the date of purchase. The punch card can be used for all Community Fitness classes and can also be used for drop-in classes at the Canada Games Complex. (Punch cards can be purchased at The Canada Games Complex, Volunteer Pool and Churchill Pool)
Note: Support Person-No fee if supporting a person with a PAL (Personal Attendant for Leisure Card)

 9X Punch Card – $65.00 + HST

One-On-One Support

Facilitating the inclusion of Children & Youth with disabilities in the Recreation & Culture Division’s Programming

  • JIS support is FREE! (not including registration fees)
  • A site or virtual visit will be conducted prior to the start of support
  • To initially apply for JIS, complete a Participant Intake Form
  • Please contact us prior to registering for a program

JIS supports the Recreation & Culture Division’s Children and Youth programs, swimming lessons and 4U programs.

Adult Inclusion Services

One-On-One and Small Group Support

Facilitation services for adults with accessibility needs who want to participate in the City’s Recreation and Culture programming and access their services and facilities.

  • Inclusion Services support is FREE! (not including admissions and registration fees)
  • Open to anyone with a disability in Thunder Bay 18 years of age or older
  • To apply, fill out an intake form

PAL Card

The Personal Attendant for Leisure (PAL) Card is issued to a person with a disability, enabling their support person access to a facility that accepts the PAL Card, at no cost.

The PAL Card is accepted at City of Thunder Bay recreation programs and recreation facilities, as well as a number of private recreation facilities in the community. Email us for an up to date list.

PRO Kids

PRO Kids makes it possible for children and youth to get involved in activities when families cannot afford the fees.

PRO Kids' Family Pool Party

Make a splash at the PRO Kids’ Family Pool Party presented by Viterra!

For only $2 a person you can join us on Saturday June 22 at the Canada Games Complex from 1pm-4pm.

Here is some of what we have planned:

  • FREE BBQ with Hot Dogs, Snacks, and Refreshments
  • In Pool Games including Volleyball and Aqua Zumba
  • Pool Deck activities including Jumbo Jenga and Cornhole
  • Demonstration and fun with Thunder Bay Dive Club

Funds raised will help local kids access sport and recreation when families are unable to afford the fees!

It’s going to be an afternoon filled with swimming, music, and family fun!

Affordable Access Program

Need help with fees for recreation and transit?

The Affordable Access Pilot for Recreation and Transit provides eligible applicants with a $350 credit for City of Thunder Bay recreation programs and half price monthly Transit passes.

General Eligibility

  • You live in the City of Thunder Bay
  • Have income at or below income limits (Low Income Cut Off numbers after tax)
  • Age category of 18+ for Recreation credit, and 25-59 for transit pass)
  • See website for criteria and information on program credits

Community, Youth & Cultural Funding Program

The City of Thunder Bay offers grant programs to non-profit organizations and individual artists.

This program includes 3 categories: Project Grants, Operating Grants and Sustaining Grants.
