The Thunder Bay District Health Unit offers the Start Early: Fluoride Varnish Program, which provides free fluoride varnish treatment to children up to 4 years old. Fluoride varnish is a protective coating that is painted onto the teeth. It is a safe, effective and proactive way to prevent cavities and strengthen teeth, promoting lifelong oral health. It can be applied as soon as the first baby teeth appear and it is a fast, easy and painless process.
